Reverbnation / Women on the Move

I'm in a group called "Women on the Move."

Enjoy the engaging and uplifting songs of Women on the Move, a group of independent Southern California artists who are raising money to support domestic violence shelters.

Three of the troupe’s Southern California artists – Joan Enguita, Trish Lester and Linda Geleris – are touring as an acoustic trio, sharing original music, folk and pop favorites, and beloved Joni Mitchell songs. Their compilation CD, “Beautiful,” has been an “Editor’s Pick” at www.CDBaby.com (the Internet’s top site for independent music) for over two years.

To Buy CDs, search for "Women on the Move" or for any member of the trio at CDBaby!

They sing original songs of love, life and hope, with solos and great harmonies, acoustic guitar, dulcimer, and lively percussion. Women on the Move have raised funds for women’s shelters in San Diego, Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles, and they’re actively seeking additional concert opportunities. They can be a great addition to your Women's Conference or other special event!

Please Help Larry Wines!

Larry Wines is a music journalist and wonderful friend of independent artists. Nearly every show where I go to perform in a showcase, Larry is there lending his support. He's not just there for me, mind you. I think there's a long list somewhere of thankful artists, for whom Larry has appointed himself "head cheerleader."

I have known Larry for many years, and have had numerous conversations with him on a variety of subjects. He has encyclopedic knowledge of more artists and genres of music than I even knew existed! He is also a very kind-hearted man, who found a way to get to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit, to help with the rescue efforts personally.

Larry compiles an exhaustive listing of who is playing music, when and where, at: http://acousticamericana.blogspot.com There's simply no excuse not to get out and about to have an adventure of discovering the fabulous array of talented artists whom Larry has taken the time and heart to promote.

This fall, I attended a benefit concert for Larry, who is having to pay for emergency eye surgery out of pocket, with no health insurance. (More recently I have heard of further financial setbacks for Larry.) On my way home from that benefit concert, I was driving home along the 101 and saw "Victory" on one of those large green road signs over the freeway. Trying not to endanger either myself, nor the other drivers heading east, I carefully wrote down (because I'm a songwriter, and that's what we do . . . write down ideas for songs) "I wish I could live on Victory Lane." The very next thought that came to mind, having just been with Larry, was "I wish I could buy you a house on Victory Lane." Over the next few days, I put the finishing touches on the song.

The following week, I attended a music conference in Irvine, California, known as "Far West" (the western region of Folk Alliance International  folk.org ) I sat in on a seminar on getting ones videos / songs on youtube. I recognized the instructor (Ron Sarfaty) as being the same person who had been at Larry Wines' benefit, videotaping the entire day of performers. At the end of the hour, I introduced myself, and told him how I had seen him behind the camera at the benefit. He was very interested to hear that I wrote a song about Larry on the way home from the event, and asked to hear it. As soon as Ron heard "Victory Lane" he wanted to make a video of me singing the song. Which he did almost immediately.

Meanwhile, Ron has put together a video featuring one song from each of the 13 performers who appeared at the Larry Wines Benefit Concert. The idea is to provide a high quality HD video of some of the best singer/songwriters around (and also some fine belly dancing) and make it available for $25, which will go directly to Larry Wines to assist him in paying off his tremendous medical bills.

I hope you will consider supporting a fellow human being who has fallen on some hard times. And I almost forgot to mention . . . Ron placed the video of my song "Victory Lane" first, as it is a tribute to the man whom we all wish to bless with some much needed financial assistance. Bless you and thanks for caring!

Here's the address where you can send a check for $25 or more, payable to Larry Wines:

The Coffee Gallery Backstage

The Coffee Gallery Backstage is a 49 seat show room connected to a coffee house surprisingly called, "The Coffee Gallery."  The Backstageis a listening room with a fine sound system, good lights, comfortable seating and a killer atmosphere.

The room "location" is a coffee bean warehouse somewhere in Central America.  You are comfortably stranded while your cruise ship rides out a storm at the mouth of the river.  You,  fortunately, are ashore and have stumbled upon this warehouse where a  group of musical and witty, mostly American, expatriates are earning their cups of exotic coffee by entertaining with voice, guitar and humor.

There seems to be a never-ending supply of them; it is almost always a different group every weekend night.   The entertainers seem to be overjoyed with  this bean storage facility as the audience is starved for "good" music and  comedy and no machinery of any kind makes a sound while they are  performing.   Grinders are not allowed. Each individual bean is crushed,  quietly, by hand  by underpaid field workers.

POLICIES
Experience The Coffee Gallery Backstage. Reservations strongly suggested. Seating is limited. Show up on time or a little early. The Coffee Gallery Backstage does not operate on Central American  Time. When it is full, it is full. Be late and you can, and will be, sent back to the cruise ship.

NOTE: The policy of The Coffee Gallery Backstage is to present "broadcast television clean" entertainment suitable for everyone. This is to assure that the material will be of the highest quality and will come from "thinking it through" instead of going for the cheap laugh. You may bring your brain with you. All ages welcomed. If you have any questions concerning language or movie ratings (most will be "G"), phone and ask or ask at the door. Above all it will always be FUN. Bob Stane insists on enjoying himself EVERY night. No exceptions.

THERE WILL BE
CONSTANT AMUSEMENTS!

"Abandon all hope yea who enter here and sign our guest book, please!"
